Scraping For Change showcased their talent at Tabard Inn on a mild September night in front of 100 fans.

The campus-based band is no stranger to the NDNU community, as they are all NDNU alumni or current students. Students enjoyed rock music inspired by bands such as Nirvana, Foo Fighters and Led Zeppelin. This energetic five-piece rock band uses energy, powerful riffs along with precise musicianship and beautifully pitched vocals to intrigue audiences all over the bay area.

The five members include Sterling Selover and Chris Lovero on guitar (Chris wasn't present due to his attending graduate school in Chicago, Illinois), Manny Gonzales on bass, Joe Szulkowski on drums and Anthony Andrade Jr. as their vocalist and ultimate front man.

I had a chance to catch up with Joe just after bands regular sound check on his thoughts of the bands success.

Erick: Hello Joe, how is everything going?

Joe: (Drinking a beer and smoking a cigarette) Doing fine, pumped about the upcoming show.

E: What happened to Chris, the fifth member of the band?

J: He couldn't make it today. It's a blow to our songs' harmonies, but he flies out from Chicago on all of our major gigs. He should be back in action full-time next summer.

E: Are you guys booking a lot of gigs at the moment?

J: It's staying pretty regular, at least once a month, but up to three times a month sometimes.

E: I know you have a pretty large fan base here on campus. Are you guys excited for the start of the new school year?

J: Yeah, we love the NDNU community. They have always showed us a ton of support. Some of our shows are in the city and we were talking to ASNDNU about getting a shuttle bus to transport some of our fans on campus to the venues we will be playing at sometime in the near future.

E: I know you guys have played locally here in Belmont at Hola Mexican Restaurant. Are you guys going to do that again this year?

J: Yeah, for sure. Everyone loved that. We packed the place, so not only was it good for us, but the restaurant sales were up that day. We have a pretty good relationship with the people over there.

E: Oh great. Okay, just to close it out, where do you see the band in one year from now? What would be your ultimate goal?

J: We want to pursue this as a full time career, so hopefully in one year we would like to have another full length CD that is played on the radio, and also touring full time.

E: Alright Joe, thank you for your time. Good luck out there!!

The concert went well but the Belmont Police Department showed up. Someone had complained about the noise and Scraping for Change was forced to end their set a little bit early.

Fasten your seatbelts as this band takes you for an adventure of music inspired by their hard work and passion for their craft.
