Student and faculty Senates both call for Oblak to resign

"There are holes in the breezeway," said Archibald, who went on to compare the disrepair of the school to the new deck recently installed on the school-owned San Carlos home in which Oblak resides.

"How many people use the new, safe deck, versus the number of people who slip in the breezeway daily?"

Similar complaints were presented by Barr at the Faculty Senate meeting.

"We were impressed by the students," said Friedman. The student support fueled the decision of the Faculty Senate.

"In spring of 2006," said Lichtenstein, "a motion to discuss a vote of no confidence was made. It passed, but we decided not to proceed with it at that time."

Nyland was president of the Faculty Senate at the time. According to her, the decision not to act on the vote was bad timing, since WASC was visiting the school later that year.

"But we continued to pursue it," said Nyland.

"As you can see," said Lichtenstein, "things have changed."

Faculty and staff were made aware of the AS Senate meeting, but were kept from the proceedings.

"We don't want any supervision or input in the meeting," said Barr. "It's a student decision."

Likewise, President Oblak was aware of the Faculty Senate meeting, but was not present.

A response from Oblak to the student petition was issued at the AS Senate meeting, which included individual responses to each of the points expressed by the Senate.

After discussions, the student Senate held two votes. The first supported the vote of no confidence and passed with a unanimous vote. The second also passed unanimously, supporting the decision of the faculty and staff, whatever they decided.

"It's in the students' hands," said Barr. "It started with the students, and now it's come full circle."
