Cressey Nakagawa has resigned from the Notre Dame de Namur Board of Trustees, NDNU Provost and Executive Vice President Dr. Judith Grieg announced Jan. 10. Nakagawa had served as chair of the board.

Trustee Marc Desautels has been elected chair in Nakagawa's place, the board announced Jan. 17. Desautels led the trustees' investigation into the concerns put forth by the Associated Students and the Faculty Senate of NDNU in October.

Nakagawa's resignation followed Dr. Jack Oblak's Dec. 12 decision to leave his post as university president.

After an Oct. 16 vote of no confidence in Oblak by the Associated Students, the Faculty Senate voted to ask both Nakagawa and Oblak to resign. Desautels led the trustees' investigation into those concerns.

Oblak's resignation, which was effective Dec. 31, leaves a leadership void that Grieg and the senior staff vow to fill. The Board of Trustees will address NDNU's leadership situation when school resumes for the Spring 2008 semester, said Grieg.
