Dear Athena
Issue date: 1/31/08 Section: Entertainment
Dear Athena,
I have been dating my girlfriend for about six months, and with Valentine's Day right around the corner, I want to make it a special day for her.
The problem is I have no experience with Valentine's Day and I have no idea what to do! She is not a high maintenance girl, and she doesn't like a lot of gifts or material things. I'm lost. What should I do?
Lost in love
Dear Lost in Love,
Valentine's Day is one of the hardest holidays for couples and singles. People who are single hate Valentine's Day, and those who are in a relationship struggle to make the day perfect.
My best advice to you is to keep it simple. It really is the thought that counts, so be creative. Surprising her with her favorite flowers and making her dinner is one simple yet very romantic idea.
Whatever you do make sure it comes from the heart.
Dear Athena,
Valentine's Day is approaching and I am in a sticky situation. I have been dating a lot these past few months and lately two particular guys have been really trying to impress me. A few days ago they both asked me on a date for Valentine's Day. I told them both that I needed to check my calendar.
I have no idea which one I should choose, and the last thing I want to do is hurt either of their feelings.
How should I handle the situation?
Too Many Valentines
Dear Too Many Valentines,
It seems to me that you're ahead of the game for this Valentine's Day. Cupid has hit you with one too many arrows this year.
Dating is one of the most exciting and confusing activities. One minute you think you are just having fun getting to know someone, and then all of a sudden you're stuck between two guys.
First of all, do yourself a favor and enjoy being young and single because you will definitely look back and miss this time in your life.
As for the situation at hand, you have two options: you can tell both of them you already have plans to spend Valentines Day with a group of single girlfriends, or you can choose one of them to be your Valentine.
