Katie Garibaldi, singer, songwriter and NDNU alum, began a challenging quest to play an opening set for the Dave Matthews Band on their upcoming 2008 tour.

The chance to play on the tour comes straight from the band itself. In December, the Dave Matthews Band opened a survey on their website by which fans of the band are able to submit nominations for opening acts.

"I just happened to click on the (Dave Matthews) MySpace page to see what they were up to," said Garibaldi."I figured I might as well try and it doesn't hurt for them to see my name and check out my music."

The idea behind the band's contest is simple. Fans can go to their website and fill out a simple form with some basic information, including their name, age, and e-mail address. Then, fans have five spaces to fill with nominations for the contest.

Garibaldi said, "The DMB has always been real and really close to their fans, no matter how big they got.  That's something I've always admired."

"They are a huge inspiration for indie artists trying to make their mark in the music industry," says Garibaldi. She also added, "getting the chance to open for them would be a big break for me and I would love the opportunity!"

Garibaldi earned her Communications degree from NDNU in 2006, but, in her words, has "always been musical." She added, "I started playing guitar about 12 years ago," and has been writing songs "for as long as I can remember."

Her music is self-described as "acoustic folk-rock with a country edge," and samples of her songs can be found on her website, , as well as on theargonaut.net.

Through Garibaldi's website fans can also purchase two of her CDs. They can also be found on iTunes, CDBaby.com, and Amazon.com.

The Dave Matthews Band's survey can also be found online, at , as well as through their MySpace blog.
