Junior Minh Vu was elected president of the Associated Students of NDNU in voting conducted by email last week.
Rich Watters announced the new ASNDNU officers on April 4 by sending the news to the student emails. Polling only took place online. Over 325 students voted.
The newly elected for the executive branch are Vu, president; Christina Zigliotto, vice president; Derek DeGrenier, treasurer; and Anne Marie Kwan, secretary.
"I have been and will always be a liaison for all students," said Vu. He has participated in ASNDNU since his freshman year and was elected vice president his sophomore year. One of his biggest accomplishments as VP was re-establishing Campus Beautification Day. This year he has served as a senator, member of the Programming Board and as president of the Rotaract chapter at NDNU.
One of Vu's goals that he said he hopes to accomplish is providing night students with the same resources that the traditional undergrads receive, such as the writing center or the use of the computer labs. He would also like to further positive relationships with Belmont City Council and create more school pride.
Vu isn't the only one who has high hopes for next year.
"I hope to lead with the executive board to secure our rights for (Koret) Field," said DeGrenier. He said he is excited for this opportunity to participate and looks forward to next year.
Others elected include Diana Enriquez and Shanda Mae Villenueva to the senators of the School of Arts & Humanities; Annie Schweibinz as senator to the School of Education and Leadership; Leilani Kalewahea and Monica Barbuzano as senators to the School of Sciences; and David Baird as senator for evening students.
Senate vacancies exist for the School of Business and Management, commuter students, evening students and graduate student. Vacancies will be filled by appointments in the fall.
The students also had a chance to vote for two constitutional amendments. Both of the amendment called for candidates for vice president and president to be senators for one year. Both of them passed.
