This year's annual campus beautification was held on Wednesday April , 22. Minh Vu, ASNDNU president started the project when he was a sophomore serving as ASNDNU vice president and has kept the tradition alive. This year however was the first year that it had been changed to campus and community beautification day because trees were planted in Twin Pines Park as well.

They held four sessions during the day to help out students who wanted to come but had classes. Throughout the day it was a real community effort. There were students, faculty, and even board of trustee members. Vu said "In planning the event the groundskeeper are very much a part of the process. They helped me pick out plants and devised a plan to pick out a perfect location where they will survive."

All together they planted 221 California natives that are drought tolerant and deer resistant. They vary between ground cover and bushes. Most are fast growing; the bushes will reach 7 feet tall and the ground covers a radius of 4 feet. By next year's commencement the front will be different, because most of them should have grown up to 2 feet.

Some students couldn't help but wonder how we can afford money for plants but cutting athletics and raising tuition. However Vu said that the money was especially appropriated from the ASNDNU budget, and was not an excessive expense.

Vu was very thankful to all the students and faculty who came out for the project. As a senior this was a particularly sentimental project. To the seniors he says, "We are leaving NDNU better than we found it."
