As the year comes to an end, the sports have wrapped up their seasons. There have been rough seasons for some teams, while others were able to see many positives. Looking back on this spring, lacrosse, tennis, softball, golf and soccer have worked hard and competed well.
WOMENS GOLF
The women's golf team has finished up its sixth and final season as a collegiate sport at NDNU.
The Argos played their final tournament April 20-21 as they hosted the Lady Argo West Coast Invite in Brentwood, CA. The Argos finished in 7th place overall, while Kelly Ashton tied for 11th place and Nicole Burtt tied for 25th place.
This was the last time the seniors would walk on the greens as college athletes. "Our last home tournament was extremely exciting but also very sad. Playing collegiate golf has been a huge part of my life, and it was bittersweet walking up the 18th fairway knowing it was ending," said senior Jaimie Zunini.
"It is hard to see an amazing program come to an end. All the girls enjoyed playing, and we are all sad to see our college careers end. Our team received cards and endearments from our fellow competitors at the last tourney saying goodbye and they will miss us. Knowing that we made an impact among the college world as both players and individuals is truly a sign of a sucessful program," continued Zunini.
It has been a wonderful sport with many athletes able to pursue their college degrees while also playing the sport that they love. Due to budget cuts within the athletic department, women's golf is being eliminated and will no longer have a team at NDNU.
"I feel very hurt, confused, and angry. I have a four year contract to play golf and they violated that contract by saying that there's no money when there is. I am very upset about NDNU canceling the Woman's Golf Program," said sophomore Lauren Kelley.
The girls that are not graduating this year have been told they will be keeping their scholarships for the duration of their studies at NDNU. But money is not everything for the girls who came to NDNU to play golf and can no longer do so.
